Rally and hill climbing are two branches of motor sports. Rally is a long distance race over public roads, sometimes including rough terrain, typically in several stages, lasting several days.
All rally crews consist of driver and co-driver, each of them having their own specific tasks during competition.
Hill climbing (also speed hill climbing) is race in which competitors try to complete an uphill course as fast as possible. Hill climbing is one of the oldest forms of racing and it’s known for testing the limit of driver’s and race car’s abilities. Result depends on the driver’s abilities only, most important of which is memorizing the course in detail.
In terms of athletics, hill climbing resembles a sprint, while rally is more of a marathon.
WHO IS Maša
In Slovenia, there’s been lots of cases in which karting as well as motor sports have strengthened the father-daughter bond. Maša Eržen is this year’s cup champion of the women’s hill climbing race in Slovenia.
Her father, Matjaž Eržen, raced many different race cars in his career 30 years ago, including a Renault 11 Turbo. Racing in a Peugeot 306, he and Maša were the front runners at the Železniki rally in 2020 and 2021.
For several years, Maša’s uncle Jurij Eržen also successfully competed in rally with the 306.
The Eržens are therefore a Slovene racing family.
